Bay Tree Farm - Access Statement

Our comfortable accommodation is in an 18th Century converted sandstone barn with views over the surrounding countryside.

We do appreciate that it's very character poses accessibility problems for some guests who are elderly or those with permanent or temporary disabilities. We want all our guests to enjoy their stay and have looked at ways to improve accessibility whilst retaining the character of our home.

  1. Bay tree Farm has six en suite bedrooms; two of the ground floor bedrooms are in an annex and are ideally suited to elderly people or those who have difficulty walking. The annex is approximately 5 paces from the entrance to the main building where breakfast is served.

  2. The two rooms in the annex are reached via a deep single step.

  3. We also have a double/twin room on the ground floor of the main house, which is reached via a 6cm step but we have available a removable ramp for wheelchair users. This room has a good-sized bathroom which is wheelchair-friendly. The shower has a grab rail & seat, the shaver point is low, and the sink has no pedestal, etc.

  4. The parking area immediately adjacent to the annex has space for 4 cars, is well lit at night and has a smooth tarmac surface easy for walking on. There is further car parking available on the other side of the accommodation buildings.

  5. It is possible to drop-off guests and luggage close to the entrance of the ground floor rooms. We are happy to help with luggage if we are needed.

  6. A pen and pad can be made available on arrival if required.

  7. We escort guests to their room and familiarize them with their new surroundings.

  8. Entrances:
    • The main building entrance has one step and no handrail.
    • Ground floor Internal doorways are wheelchair width and, therefore, transit and movement by wheelchair is not difficult.
    • Doors are fitted with door-knobs, rather than handles and are locked with a traditional key.
    • All rooms & corridors are carpeted and well-lit.

  9. The ground floor bedrooms are generously spacious and well equipped:
    • Refreshments tray with cordless kettle.
    • Comprehensive guest information, such as how to summon assistance at night and a breakfast menu.
    • Remote control colour television.
    • Beds are the very best commercial quality, which means they have more springs to give support and comfort.
    • Our beds have cotton sheets and blankets as standard, but quilts are available on request.

  10. All ground floor rooms have mains powered fire safety systems.

  11. En suite bathrooms are:
    • Spacious and allow easy of movement with a walking aid.
    • Have walk in, easily controlled showers with hot water safety valve.
    • Tiled & heated floors.

      • Vegetarian, options with main menu and specials
      • Gluten Free; bread, sausages and cakes

  13. No smoking.

  14. Guide and assistance dogs accompanying visually or hearing impaired guests are welcome in the ground floor en suite bedrooms. There are large grassed areas where guide/assistance dogs can enjoy a break.
